Today, a consensus has emerged to say that detection in the terahertz (THz) band [100 GHz –10 THz] -or millimeter / sub-millimeter wavelength ranges –could help to answer to several important societal issues, such as material detection/identification, non-destructive testing or security imaging. BOLOTERA aims at starting a new technology of uncooled THz microbolometers based on La0.7Sr0.3MnO3 (LSMO) thin films and demonstrate that they can show low NEP (< 1 pW/Hz1/2) combined to fast response (< 1 ms) by unlocking technological issues on one or a limited number of pixels in a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) starting at 2 and increased up to 4 during the project. BOLOTERA will be based on 3 important workpackages (material growth, bolometer technology, characterization). Our aim is to combine GREYC expertise of LSMO bolometers up to mid IR range with IEMN expertise on mm and THz devices, while having in mind the industrial requirements as defined by the Vmicro company.
